What educators are saying

This is the second crime scene case I have bought from this seller. Both have been AMAZING! Will continue to purchase any crime scene investigation resource you make. My kids had a BLAST! Super fun to teach, too! :)
I used this resource during intervention time with my students, and it was really helpful to increase student knowledge of making inferences and using text evidence to support answers.

Description

ABOUT THE GAME

  • This is a simplistic and controlled whodunnit mystery. Union Bank was robbed and now students need to look at evidence and interviews and decide who is guilty.
  • Almost every single thing in this file is editable. Sp you can adjust the language/cultural references as necessary.
  • The lesson also works great as a debate class, as at each step you can have students discuss who they think is guilty and why. However, this is also great for any other language skill you might like to practice, as well as skills such as inference.

ONLINE, WHOLE-CLASS PPT, OR SMALL GROUPS

This can be played as a complete online PPT game, using the slides to communicate all necessary information (and sending students the PDF files if you wish) OR you can have a hands-on lesson by printing all of the evidence for students to touch and discover themselves!

ABOUT THIS FILE

  • This zip file contains the PowerPoint slides and the font files, and is then divided into two folders: Online Version files, and the Tactile Resource version files.
  • The PowerPoint slides are all you need to step your students through the lesson. There are detailed explanations/suggested lesson plan in the first few slides. However, to make things more tactile and fun, you can (and I suggest that you do) print out the evidence, interviews and suspect files so that students can really touch and examine the mystery.
  • Suspect files are handed out to each group to explore and understand who the suspects are and what their relationships are.
  • The Student Worksheet helps students focus on each stage of the lesson and the decisions they need to make
  • The Evidence and Interview printables are a wonderful addition to the lesson. While it may take time to prepare these, students love picking up each piece of evidence and feeling like real detectives. To add to the fun, I organize each round of evidence/interviews to be in sealed manila envelopes that the students get to rip open. It makes it feel like a real-life experience!

****ONLINE VERSION ****

  • follow the normal stages of the lesson but instead of handing out physical copies of the evidence, send a PDF file of the evidence needed at the current lesson stage.
  • The PDFs are not editable, but there are PPT files that are editable which you can then save as PDFs to send to your students.
  • Lesson Procedure: After sending the relevant PDF file, send students to their Breakout rooms (Zoom's small discussion rooms). They talk and make their decisions and prepare reasons. We then come back together as a whole class and discuss. This is repeated for each stage of the lesson.

RELATED RESOURCES:

  • This lesson follows a similar concept to the popular Murder Mystery Lesson. If you've enjoyed either one of these mystery lessons, I suggest looking at the other one!
  • If you've tried this lesson, why not try my newest Murder Mystery? It is a bit more complex in language and details but follows the same style as this robbery mystery as well as my original murder mystery lesson.
