What educators are saying

Loved the various ways to present/review each concept. Several of my students found the graphic organizers helpful in organizing their thoughts.
I am always looking for specific activities that hit the standards I am working on. This one worked well. Thank you for a great resource.

Description

Teach your students to analyze how a particular sentence, chapter, or scene fits into the overall structure of a text and contributes to the development of the theme, setting, or plot. This file, which contains multiple resources, addresses the focus of CCSS RL.6.5 and CCSS RL.5.5. All of the print resources in this bundle include a Google Slides option.

This bundle includes:

  • 40-slide PowerPoint, which analyzes chapters from Charlotte's Web and a scene from Crash (You have my permission to convert this PowerPoint to Google Slides, if you wish.)
  • 6-page matching PowerPoint companion handout
  • worksheet with a passage and follow-up questions
  • writing activity where students write their own passage, focusing on plot and theme
  • two read-aloud activities featuring well-known children's books: A Bad Case of Stripes by David Shannon and My Rotten Redheaded Older Brother by Patricia Polacco

Sample answers are included for each item in this bundle. For all of the follow-up activities, you get to choose whether you want to use the printable worksheets or the Google Slides version

⭐️ Tina M. said, "My class enjoyed this! This resource was very engaging, thorough, and very well done. I will be using this for years to come!"

⭐️ Get Your Phil of the Standards said, "This is a great resource to really explain and ensure mastery of these standards!! The Charlotte's Webb connection is a great added bonus!"

⭐️ Kari R. said, "I think this resource was great for getting my students to think about what they're reading and understanding plots and themes. We did this together as a class. I have found my students do not like looking back through what they've read to find answers and this definitely helped them get a better understanding of that."
