What educators are saying

My students used these novel story worksheets to comprehend the book. I believe these were useful to the students comprehension of the book.

Description

Great resource for helping students with compassion, empathy, kindness, and tolerance.

This is a ready-to-use (text boxes have been inserted), custom-made Google Slides packet for middle grades reading Auggie & Me (which contains 3 WONDER stories: The Julian Chapter, Pluto, and Shingaling), by R.J. Palacio. The packet is designed as independent work for grades 5-8.

Included is a 36-page student workbook and a separate answer key in addition to optional vocabulary bookmarks, culminating assessments, plus vocabulary lists for the teacher organized by page number and assignment. This packet supports CCSS (Common Core State Standards) and includes a list of standards supported.

The text is divided into seven reading assignments of about 40 pages each. With each assignment are 4-5 pages of activities to go along with the text to encourage close reading and guide students as they work independently. They include vocabulary reinforcement, recognizing literary elements (similes, onomatopoeia, hyperbole, allusions, idioms), setting, point-of-view, character traits, theme, and change. The workbook also gives students essential practice in constructing written responses through writing tasks requiring students to infer, compare & contrast, clarify expressions, demonstrate comprehension, and summarizing.

The student workbook is designed for independent work thus allowing students to have directed work while the teacher is working on small group or individual instruction. Also, the workbook can be used as a guide for a parent or an aide as they direct a student book club or conduct small group discussions of the book. Questions and tasks in the workbook are intended to prompt high level thinking and promote quality group discussions.

NOTES: This Google Slides product is a duplicate of my Auggie & Me novel study which is a PDF/Easel digital product and which you can see here to read its reviews.

You may be interested to know that I also have a novel study for WONDER, by R.J. Palacio and for WHITE BIRD, a 2019 Palacio graphic novel that continues the WONDER series through Julian's grandmother as she survived the Holocaust. I've bundled together all three of my novel studies for Palacio's books in my WONDER-ful Bundle.

AUGGIE & ME in a Nutshell:

Published in August of 2015, Auggie & Me was written by R.J. Palacio in response to thousands of requests by readers of WONDER who wanted to know more about the characters who impacted Auggie's life in her award winning book, WONDER. This book expands the story of Wonder through additional narratives told from the perspectives of three characters who were each impacted by knowing Auggie: Julian, Christopher, and Charlotte. Readers will at last have some of their questions answered about why Julian was such a bully to Auggie, who Auggie had been friends with before Beecher Prep, and how he impacted other students at the school. This book is full of the same WONDER-ful sensitivity, charm, and truisms as R.J. Palacio's first book...and fans of WONDER are bound to adore it!
