Description

Get your middle school science class talking with this biology discussion activity on creating artificial life, recommended for grade 8-10 students learning about characteristics of living things! Designed with MYP in mind but appropriate for any middle school, high school, international, or homeschool STEM curriculum.

Students take on one of 5 character roles to discuss the benefits and risks associated with creating synthetic organisms. In the process, they will discuss the characteristics of living things, biotechnology, and what it means to be alive. Can we (and should we) create biological or artificial forms of life? Print and share or use the included slides for a paperless digital experience. Can be used as a formative assessment to check for understanding or as a summative assessment using the included MYP rubrics (criteria A and D).
