Description

Art sub lessons are no fun to create. If you need a middle school lesson plan for an emergency absence, maternity leave, or any other reason, this art activity on positive and negative space is for you. The best part is that the planning is done for you!!! Keep a copy handy in your art sub folder or sub tub.

This low prep sub lesson includes visuals and a script to help the teacher with the concept of positive and negative space. Students trace the shapes of objects that can either be found right in the art room or ones you bring in, thus creating a positive space. Then they add pattern to the background, filling in the negative space. As easy as this lesson is, the students create original and attractive works of art.

This lesson includes

  • 7 pages of visuals, showing the difference between positive and negative space
  • 1 page showing the students and substitute teacher what supplies are needed
  • 2 pages of visuals showing the students the steps for how to do the drawing
  • 1 page introducing the teacher to the lesson, describing how to teach it.
  • 1 page at the end describing how to end the lesson.
