Your intermediate elementary and middle school students will thoroughly enjoy this mixed media drawing lesson! It is a perfect lesson for winter or celebrating women artists for Women's History Month! Students will be able to identify and critique the artwork and style of artist Indi Maverick. Students will used hatching and stippling to create implied texture. Lastly, students will use unity when adding color to their creative patterns in the sweater, hat and/ or scarf worn by the woodland animal they drew. The slides and PowerPoint presentation include standards (Organize the structural elements of art and use accurate vocabulary to achieve and explain artistic
goals when producing personal works of art. VA.68.S.1.4), objectives, vocabulary (stippling, pattern, texture, hatching and unity) step by step directions, rubric expectations and printable rubric, Indi Maverick artist connection and art critique of her work, examples of her work, and an YouTube video art tutorial to help your students learn the concept of drawing with implied lines, creating texture with hatching and using a limited palette to create unity.
