Description
These eight animal adaptations partner plays are intended to be used as fluency-building activities that 4th-5th students can do with a partner. This set of scripts focuses on fascinating animal adaptations that are sure to astound your students. Many animals are featured, including the thorn bug, the cuckoo bird, the pistol shrimp, the hippopotamus, the elephant, the duck, the pufferfish, the humpback whale, the butterfly fish, and the Texas horned lizard.
It also includes a BONUS comprehension worksheet. After reading each script, students answer two comprehension questions that accompany that particular script.
This resource is available in multiple formats. Each teacher gets to choose the format that best meets his/her students' needs. You will choose between the printable partner plays and the paperless version that uses Google Slides. These plays contain real photographs of each animal.
These scripts require minimal teacher support, thereby allowing teachers to work with other small groups. For teachers who implement reading centers, these plays are perfect. These scripts are also ideal for parents who are looking for fun at-home reading activities that parents and children can read together. If you have a child who is reluctant to read at home, I encourage you to give these scripts a try!
This set includes eight independent scripts:
- Learning About Adaptations (elephant ears, duck's webbed feet, bears hibernation)
- Watch Out for the Thorn Bugs (thorn bugs)
- The Cunning Cuckoo (cuckoo bird)
- Underwater Adaptations (pufferfish, butterfly fish, flatfish)
- Scary Deer Doodles (tufted deer)
- Migrating Whales (humpback whales)
