    Description

This mini bundle includes three resources to teach your students about Ancient Rome. These hands-on activities can be used to differentiate your Ancient Rome / Roman Empire unit. The products include a creative project, a movie guide, and a class debate.

    Resources included in this bundle:

    1. Ancient Rome Newspaper Project - This is a creative project in which students research a key event from the history of Ancient Rome and create a newspaper reporting the event as though they're in the time period. Students are given criteria, a list of options to choose from, a notepad style research organizer for answering the 5 Ws like a journalist, and 4 pages to input the information for the newspaper. The newspaper pages include a front page article, opinion piece columns, space for creating a political cartoon or comic strip, and a section to come up with want ads that fit the time period.

    2. Gladiator Movie Guide - This is a set of resources for viewing the movie Gladiator (2000) in your classroom. While the main character and the storyline are fictional, the movie is very loosely influenced by historical figures, events, customs, and ideas in Ancient Rome. The viewing guide is detailed and arranged in time-stamped sections. In addition to filling out the viewing guide questions, students will: Complete discussion questions that can be done individually or in small groups, do a character analysis, analyze the historical concepts in the film, and be assessed with a quiz. These resources will help students to think critically about the movie's portrayal of the Romans and glean the historical themes.

    3. Fall of Rome Debate - This is a set of lesson materials that culminates in a class debate about the causes behind the fall of the Roman Empire. Students will: Learn about the internal and external factors in Rome's decline, analyze different viewpoints, be assigned a position to take, collaborate within teams, prepare main arguments, peer review each other's reasoning, and will participate in an academic debate that is guided by moderator questions (included). The objective is to help students think critically, learn to articulate a view, and relate to the other side.
