What educators are saying

Nice, short stories to use in my mythology unit. It was easy for all students to read and understand.
My students LOVED this activity! I used it as a "stations" activity to get them moving around the room!

Description

Ancient Egyptian culture was very rich and diverse. Like other early civilizations, Egypt’s mythology explained the universe and taught morality. This booklet includes 6 favorite pharaonic myths retold with color illustrations to show many of the Egyptian Gods and Goddesses.

Creation – This story explains how the universe began, how the main Deities were related, and why the calendar has 365 days in a year.

Bloodbath – This tale is about how the sun God decided to punish humans by destroying them. (There is mention of beer in this story.)

Lost Cat – In this story, a Goddess runs away from Egypt, but she gets homesick and returns.

The First Mummy – Mummification was extremely important to the ancient Egyptians, and this tale recounts how and why the first mummy was made.

Family Feuding – An uncle and his nephew fought over who was the rightful pharaoh of Egypt in this narrative.

Ra’s Secret Name – Names were very important in Egyptian culture, and this myth describes their power.

This book can be used as a whole or pick and choose the myths that work best within your lessons about ancient Egyptian history and culture. This booklet is perfect to use as a supplement for any Egyptology unit.

This downloadable zip file contains 2 booklets that are 10 pages each including the cover. The original version is in full color, but the second version is in grayscale to make printing and photocopying easier.

The illustrations are the Ancient Egyptian Gods and Goddesses clip art.

These stories would go great with the Draw Like an Egyptian art project.
