Description

Meant for a World Geography/Cultures course but also appropriate for middle or high school World History class. The project examines ancient and Medieval Chinese culture (Confucianism, filial piety, the role of women) by having the students look at a primary source document (The Ballad of Hua-Mulan), compare it to the 1998 Disney film (Mulan), and write a reflective and analytical 3-paragraph essay comparing the two forms of media and how they contribute to their understanding of Chinese culture. This project requires critical thinking, analysis, scaffolding, reading, writing, and higher-level thinking. This is appropriate for ELL and special needs students.
