TEACHING TIPS

• I reteach the symbolism and How to Read Literature Like a Professor ppts every year to my IB classes as a refresher.
• Take the ppts slooowwww. Don't rush. This helps to let the information stick. Ask students to share real life, novels, and film examples. Allow them to ask lots of questions.
• Reuse the charts and character arcs for every novel, poem, or short story. My IB students must make conflict charts, character charts, and symbolism charts ( notes they can use later ) to help them find and figure out--ANALYZE- the author's intent. It's NOT about finding Waldo ( my analogy), it's about analyzing WHY he is there.
