American Symbols Reading Comprehension First Grade Printable and Digital

Your kindergarten and 1st grade students will increase their reading comprehension and vocabulary while learning American Symbols vocabulary and doing literacy activities with these fun and engaging Boom cards! They can listen to the recorded voice reading or read it themselves. There are real pictures of these words, child friendly definitions, activities that include syllables, word parts, phonics, and finding the words in sentences . There is a teacher guide with at home tips.

• Students will be introduced to 6 words about American Symbols:

1. American flag
2. Statue of Liberty
3. Liberty Bell
4. Washington Monument
5. bald eagle

• Teachers also like the cut and paste sheets that include these words.

You could do a theme study on American Symbols and introduce these words, read our Emergent American Symbols Book or let students listen to the book on our American Symbols Boom Cards and follow up with the vocabulary boom card activities. You may also choose to introduce the vocabulary first, then send students to listen to the Vocabulary Boom Cards, then read the story.

Then teach them the Pledge of Allegiance and a little history about the flag with the fun song included.

Some teachers also like using the paper emergent readers in their guided reading groups. These readers are great because kids love learning about science and social studies and seeing the real photos!

They all make great literacy centers!

Digital Boom Cards offer an easy way for teachers to assess their students. You can use these Boom Cards with your interactive whiteboard, tablets or laptops! They are self-checking so the students know when their answers are correct.

Parents: We have included a sheet that has the words you can print and use. It is a nice way to incorporate kinesthetic with digital learning. We have also included a teacher guide with ideas on how to use the vocabulary word cards.
