Language plays a crucial role in all aspects of teaching and learning. However, as experts in our own content areas, we tend to overlook the complexity of the language structures and vocabulary required to access the content we are teaching.

With this PD, teachers will be able to experience first hand the challenges language can present in the learning process. They will leave with actionable strategies and resources to start planning their lessons through the lenses of language!

This PD will help build collective teacher efficacy in Tier 1 instruction, in schools where students struggle with academic language, whether they are English fluent students or Multilingual Learners. It provides 6 experiential activities for teachers, an infographic about the Three Tiers of Vocabulary, Language supports at the Word Level (3 steps vocab instruction system and 9 Vocabulary Strategies & resources; and at the Sentence & Discourse Level (Input & Output scaffolds).
