Description

This reader's theater was written for a small group of 4 students for either the first part of the year, Library Week, or any time you need to discuss student's treatment of books. In the script, the librarian at school thinks that things are going well but the books do not. People keep breaking the rules and the books are suffering. They tell the librarian what is going on. Students are eating when they shouldn’t and not handling them with care. The books feel that no one realizes they are full of treasure – the treasure of a good story. All they want is to be treated like they deserve. The librarian agrees to help reteach the students to help the books. This makes them happy.

At the bottom of the script is a quick write. Students are asked to list the library rules and then write about a time they damaged a book. I've had third graders read the script but they needed some extra practice. The reason this script is slightly cheaper than the rest is that it is not yet rated. Please give it feedback! I write reader's theaters because I find them to be an excellent way to motivate all readers, including reluctant ones, to practice fluency. I write small group scripts because the ONLY way reader's theater works is when there is very little wait time. In scripts with lots of characters, students spend time off-task or waiting to read this does not help them become fluent.

My scripts are mostly black and white so that they can be reproduced on a copier easier and with less ink. My name is Melanie Whitesides but my store name is Wonbyone and I hope that your students enjoy this script as much as mine did. If you are looking for more scripts for your small groups please visit my store. Thank you!
