What educators are saying

My students loved this activity! I used it in social studies at the beginning of the year as an introduction to each other.
While I loved the concept, I felt like there wasn't enough room for some of the students to write especially those who have not developed spatial awareness yet.

Description

All About Me: Culture Flag Editable

Celebrating and learning about cultures is an important part of education. In this activity, students will get to create and color a flag that represents each of their own cultures.

Using Google Classroom? No problem! A link to a Google Slides version of this activity is included in the Terms of Use section of this product. There you will find links to the editable Print Version. This purchase comes as a PDF download. Please note you MUST have a Google Account to access the editable Google Slides version of this resource.

In this activity, students will:

  • Write they country they were born in
  • Write what culture they are (this is so students born in a foreign country but identify with another culture can have the opportunity to state what their culture is; if students identify with more than one culture, they can pick one of their own choosing to write about).
  • Describe some cultural foods
  • Write what their favorite cultural food is
  • Describe their cultural dress
  • Write some facts about their culture
  • Write their favorite thing about their culture

They will also DRAW a picture of some of their cultural food and dress in the boxes provided.

Some ideas for the background of the flag:

  • Draw their country's flag
  • Design a flag of their own
  • Draw some cultural items to represent their heritage

Once complete, these can be easily posted to your classroom wall, bulletin board, or strung up.
