Description

This packet focuses on: algebraic reasoning, representations with a concrete model, verbal representations, representations with a table, representations with a graph, and representations with an algebraic equation, problem solving, math modeling, linear equations

Graphic organizing sheets in this packet are included so that this activity can be used in Math Centers.

Graphic organizers are used in the teaching of algebraic thinking/reasoning and teaching instructions of how to develop algebraic thinking in the classroom are included in this packet. A sample problem is included to overview how to use the graphic organizers and four other sample problems with keys for the graphic organizers are included to further develop algebraic reasoning.

Algebraic reasoning is one of the major content strands integrated as part of the Common Core Standards in Grades 3-5. Oftentimes, finding ways to develop the algebraic thought of our students can present a major challenge in the classroom
With this set of resources, the idea of algebraic thought in Grades 3-5 is overviewed, and then each step of a model is presented in detail with a sample problem to show the teacher how this resource can be used as an instructional model in the classroom and as part of mathematical learning centers in the classroom. This packet includes graphic organizers for projection and/or mathematical center use. Three different levels of graphic organizers are included to use throughout the year as the algebraic thought of the students progresses.
