What educators are saying

A phenomenal resource. Lots of experiments and different ways for students to explore and learn. Thanks so much!
2 Smart Chicks does it again with a comprehensive science unit for Ontario grade 2 students. I have used many of their products in previous years and am always happy with my purchase.

Description

Update: We have included a STEM Skills & Connections add-on pack with ideas and activities to help supplement the new 2022 Ontario Science Curriculum.

The new 2022 curriculum is very similar to the older version of all the other 4 strands of science. We are currently working on making any minor updates and changes to the expectations and lessons as needed. Buyers will be notified when the updated product is completed and ready to download.

This carefully constructed, well-balanced unit corresponds with the Ontario Grade 2 Science Curriculum and covers the following specific expectations:

-assess the impact of human activities on air and water in the environment, taking different points of view into consideration, and plan a course of action to help keep the air and water in the local community clean

-assess personal and family uses of water as responsible/efficient or wasteful, and create a plan to reduce the amount of water used, where possible

-follow established safety procedures during science and technology investigations

-investigate, through experimentation, the characteristics of air and its uses

-investigate, through experimentation, the characteristics of water and its uses

-investigate the stages of the water cycle, including evaporation, condensation, precipitation, and collection

-investigate water in the natural environment

-use appropriate science and technology vocabulary, including solid, liquid, vapour, evaporation, condensation, and precipitation, in oral and written communication

-use a variety of forms to communicate with different audiences and for a variety of purposes

-identify air as a gaseous substance that surrounds us and whose movement we feel as wind

-identify water as a clear, colourless, odourless, tasteless liquid that exists in three states and that is necessary for the life of most animals and plants

-describe ways in which living things, including humans, depend on air and water

-identify sources of water in the natural and built environment

-identify the three states of water in the environment, give examples of each, and show how they fit into the water cycle when the temperature of the surrounding environment changes

-state reasons why clean water is an increasingly scarce resource in many parts of the world

This extensive resource contains everything you’ll need to teach the entire unit from beginning to end, including:

-detailed unit plans and engaging lesson plans with an easy to follow format

-creative printables and fun activities

-exciting, hands-on experiments

-colourful, kid-friendly posters

-editable assessment tracking templates

-an in-depth instructional strategies handbook
