Description
Testing is tricky during distance learning and digital instruction, but this authentic assessment will prompt independent, culturally responsive, and honest work. This product uses the tragic case of Ahmaud Arbery to teach students about citizen's arrest law. Students receive a role-play where lawyers ask them to answer some questions about citizen's arrest in response to community questions and concerns. Students then receive an interactive task that lets them click on a variety of sources (E.g., a New York Times summary on citizen's arrest, a VOX podcast clip on the case, etc.) to find evidence for the lawyers' task questions. This product also contains links to model answers (for the lawyers' questions) and a scoring rubric (for grading students' on using and citing evidence). All links within the product are publicly available. The product can really be used for a variety of purposes, in addition to giving a base authentic assessment: promoting social justice teaching, teaching reading comprehension, and using credible sources. #DistanceLearning #DigitalInstrution #OnlineLearning #CulturallyResponsive Education
