Description

This is a short document-based questions (DBQ) assignment that goes along with a unit on the Age of Absolutism. The DBQ includes five documents and a total of 15 questions that go along with the documents. Students are required to read each document (all are short excerpts) and the analyze the document by answering the questions that go along with it. The DBQ does not include an essay portion, but one could easily be included if a teacher wanted to extend the analysis of the documents.

The following are the documents that are included:
1. An excerpt from "The Prince" written by Machiavelli (15th century)
2. King James I of England expressing beliefs on the monarchy (1609)
3. King Louis XIV of France on his power (1660)
4. Excerpt from the Leviathan by Thomas Hobbes (1651)
5. Painting of Palace of Versailles (1662) and portrait of King Louis XIV

The mini-DBQ could also be paired with the Age of Absolutism Notes, Monarchs Chart, and Elizabeth the Golden Age Movie Questions that are available on Teachers Pay Teachers to create a complete unit on the Age of Absolutism.
