What educators are saying

This resource was extremely helpful for our Black History Month activities. Students loved using the resources.
We use this activity in February for Black History Month. My students are always engaged when we create kente cloth and they thoroughly enjoy doing this assignment.

Description

The Pattern & African Kente Cloth lesson helps to teach about multiculturalism (African Studies) and also about the Art Element of pattern & Variety. These worksheets walk the student through the brainstorming process and guides through the making of a kente cloth.

This sheet is a formative assessment for the Art educator but can also be used by educators in other subject areas.

This lesson includes symbolic meaning of color and symbols used in kente cloth.

The kente project can be useful to accompany Black History Month lessons, and diversity units. This lesson includes symbolism and storytelling and can be used to help students discover self, and place.
