Affirmation Animal Prints
Description
For this unit, artists will create a print of an animal that affirms their personality. Affirmations are anything we say or think about ourselves. All of our self-talk, both negative and positive, are affirmations. In this unit, artists will learn how affirmations and self-empowerment can help us retrain our brains to think more positively. They will explore the many positive qualities about themselves and each other while creating a work of art that is a symbolic representation of their best selves.
Watch a brief tutorial of this project on my YouTube Channel and read more about this lesson on my website.
This printmaking unit has been broken into five 45 minute classes:
Day 1: Artists will learn about affirmations and create a drawing of an animal that
represents one positive affirmation about themselves. (Ex. I am clever like a fox, I am energetic like a cheetah, I am nurturing like a penguin).
Day 2: Artists will complete their drawings and use them to create a printing matrix of their animal onto a styrofoam sheet.
Day 3: Artists will learn and use the marker printmaking process to create a series of prints of their animals.
Day 4: Artists will create printed backgrounds for their animals by using texture rubbing plates.
Day 5: Artists will share and prepare their prints for display.
