Description
This is a chart students can use to break down a range of advertisement elements. Students are provided with a range of prompting questions about the advertisement's:
Form
Audience
Purpose
Language (features)
The second section of the table asks students to consider Aristotle's three Pillars of Persuasion (Ethos, Pathos, Logos - appealing to the heart, the head, and the cred!)
This resource has been designed to work with print media, internet, and television commercials, but is applicable to many other forms of advertising.
I use this sheet to help my students deconstruct the various forms of advertising before they attempt a summative that requires them to select any advertisement, deconstruct it, consider how it uses AIDA, and critically analyse all CFLAP elements, and the use of rhetoric.
