These PowerPoint mini lessons are best used spanning 6 consecutive class periods, but you can use the individual lessons at any time as a refresher.

Objectives - Students Will Be Able to (SWBAT):

  • Define adjectives
  • Recognize one-word adjectives within sentences, including articles, possessive pronouns, demonstrative pronouns, predicate adjectives, and proper adjectives
  • Identify phrases used as adjectives
  • Identify clauses used as adjectives
  • Correctly place commas to separate coordinate adjectives
  • Recognize and correct misplaced and dangling adjective phrases and clauses
  • Use the most precise adjectives in their own writing to avoid wordiness and redundancy

Prerequisite skill: Students should be familiar with sentence analysis (labeling subjects, action/ linking verbs, prepositional phrases, and complements (direct object, indirect object, predicate noun).
