Description

This set teaches the "Counting On" strategy for equations through 20. It is BOTH a printable packet AND a TpT Digital Activity in one product, making it ideal for distance learning. The printable version includes manipulatives, number lines, eight simple no-prep games, one student-generated game, a chant, and the following types of scaffolded worksheets:

1. Problems accompanied by illustrations for equations to 10, 15, and 20 (6 worksheets; horizontal and vertical equations).

2. Problems with spaces for illustrations for equations to 10, 15, and 20 (6 worksheets; horizontal and vertical equations).

3. Opportunities for children to practice explaining their thinking (4 worksheets).

4. Combination practice/fluency pages. (6 worksheets; horizontal and vertical equations).

If you choose the digital version, I have created answer boxes on all worksheet pages. You can just select pages for your students and assign them to Google Drive.

This set can be used in isolation. It also logically follows my Commutative Property of Addition to 20 set, available HERE.

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Relate counting to addition and subtraction (e.g., by counting on 2 to add 2).
Add and subtract within 20, demonstrating fluency for addition and subtraction within 10. Use strategies such as counting on; making ten (e.g., 8 + 6 = 8 + 2 + 4 = 10 + 4 = 14); decomposing a number leading to a ten (e.g., 13 - 4 = 13 - 3 - 1 = 10 - 1 = 9); using the relationship between addition and subtraction (e.g., knowing that 8 + 4 = 12, one knows 12 - 8 = 4); and creating equivalent but easier or known sums (e.g., adding 6 + 7 by creating the known equivalent 6 + 6 + 1 = 12 + 1 = 13).
Fluently add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies. By end of Grade 2, know from memory all sums of two one-digit numbers.
