    How to Play BUMP:

Provide your students with a game board, 10 counters each (stacking cubes work best), and 1 or 2 dice depending on the game.

    1. The first person rolls the dice, then reads the numbers on the dice (and adds them together if using 2 dice).
    2. They then follow the instructions on the bump game board (e.g. add 5 or subtract from 12). Once they have their answer they find the number on the board to cover with their counter.
    3. If the other player has a counter on the number - they can 'BUMP' it off, if their own counter is there they can stack it up and claim the number. Once a number has 2 counters stacked the counters can no longer be bumped off.
    4. Students race to be the person who uses up all their counters first (the winner).

With the variety of difficulties in the addition and subtraction bump boards, you can easily differentiate what your learners are working on based on their knowledge and or abilities, and you can increase the difficulty as their skills improve.

How to use the bump games in class

    • math centers or tubs - the games can be completed within 10 minutes so the bump games can work great as part of a rotation - longer rotation time - no worries, they can play the game again.
    • morning work - it's quick and easy to set up as a morning activity as your students come in for the morning.
    • small groups - as a teacher-guided activity these boards can work perfectly as you help your students with strategies to work out their answers.
    • early finishers - perfect for extra learning opportunities.
    • play in the class option - I have regularly put these out as a play option for my students and they have always been hugely popular.
    • to leave for a sub - I have set these games up as a whole class activity with students paired up playing the games at different levels.

    Easy to Prep

These games are minimal prep - just print the bump game boards (you can choose to laminate or use in a page protector to help the games last), add dice and counters, and you are ready to go. There is a choice of full-color or b&w boards to suit your ink needs (you can even have the students color the b&w boards).

All my bump games follow the same format and rules, therefore you can easily swap out the boards without needing to reteach the rules. I regularly swap out the themes of the boards and my students can just grab a game and already know how to play the game. There is a large range of bump games in my store including seasonal, holiday, and general themes which you can find by clicking HERE
