Activities for CNN's Hero of the Year Contest

Classroom activities based on CNN's annual "Hero of the Year" contest.

Promote global awareness with these engaging activities that include reading, listening, note taking and writing.

Each year tens of thousands of everyday people are nominated
to be CNN's "Hero of the Year". The list is narrowed to the top ten, one of whom who will win the grand prize to assist the funding of their organization.

Teachers will use the handouts with resources at www.cnn.com/hero to guide students through a decision making process that challenges them to support choice with facts.

Students review the top ten heroes, learn about them through the resources provided at www.cnn.com and then actually vote online.

Included: six page student handout with pre writing assignment, note taking handout and writing assessment with a rubric.
