In this research project, students are guided in creating a presentation and speech telling the story of a chosen activist. Students will first dig into the meaning of activism, what it is and what it looks like. Students will then conduct research into an activist. Students are given 14 guiding questions to help guide their research. This resource contains Project Directions, Grading Criteria, a Project Timeline (breaks down the components for students), a Grading Rubric, and a note-taking graphic organizer for students (to be used during presentations). Additionally, I included helpful tips on how I implemented this in my classroom.
My students LOVED this project and we learned so much about activism and how we can all take part in improving the community and world we live in. I encouraged my students to explore activists young and old, in the past and in the present. This was completed as an independent research project at the end of our activism unit. This can also be used as a great introduction into activism, or even an independent research project to open or close the school year.
I hope you enjoy it!
