Description
In this discovery lesson, students will learn to graph and transform the absolute value parent function. A card sort with equations, tables, and graphs helps students make connections. 2 pages of follow-up practice will help them solidify their understanding.
This resource includes a card sort activity and 2 follow-up practice pages.
In the card sort:
- Students fill in tables of values using given absolute value functions.
- They match corresponding graphs.
- They match descriptions of transformations.
This activity is great for partners and will help students to see how the equation affects the graph.
Next, students complete 2 practice sheets, which include the following concepts:
- Identifying the vertex, x-intercept(s), and y-intercept of absolute value functions
- Graphing absolute value functions
- Writing the equations for given absolute value graphs
Answer keys are included.
