    SUMMARY:

William Faulkner's As I Lay Dying identifies Anse Bundren, a simple country father and husband, who promises his dying wife, Addie, that he would bury her in Jefferson county, miles away. Anse rallies his motley crew of children and sojourn across Mississippi to fulfil this promise. The family learns about each other and themselves as the journey happens.

Can this family work together to make this dying mother's wish come true? Does insanity exist in this family? Can individuality and selfishness jeopardize meeting a goal?

This 11th - 12th grade canonized work allows students a chance to experience what happens when we try to keep promises.
