AP Psychology Vocabulary Terms 205 Printable Cards with Definitions and Examples

This list of 205 terms can help students practice using academic vocabulary by defining it themselves and making connections to their psychological studies. The terms can be added explicitly throughout the school year as they appear in the curriculum or they can be a homework requirement that the students complete while they read. To review the vocabulary, you can use oral vocabulary quizzes where the students define the term and make a connection to something that has been studied in class. The list is based on David Myers’ textbook Psychology 10th Edition but the terminology is applicable to many different AP Psychology textbooks.

I hand out a vocab list at the beginning of the year that is broken down by chapter. Every other Friday I have an oral vocal quiz where the students are called on at random (usually 10 terms) and they have to define them and then give an example application to earn a point. If they use an additional term in the application then they can earn two points. They earn points for themselves on their individual 3x5 cards and points for the class as a whole. I have them compete against the other class periods I teach and I keep score on a large piece of poster paper that hangs up in the class all year. At the end of each semester, the class with the highest points gets cookies or something else yummy that I bake for them. It's pretty fun and the kids are pretty competitive.
