ABC Order: Alphabetizing to the Third Letter, Common Core Aligned
- PDF
Description
With our new rigorous Common Core Standards, knowing how to alphabetize words is an essential skill. Primary students are expected to be able to reference materials such as beginning dictionaries to check for correct spelling and to find the meanings of words. Alphabetizing to the Third Letter is the third packet in a series. Each packet increases with difficulty to provide differentiation for individual students. This activity may be used in a wide variety of ways. I have a parent volunteer sit with a group of 4 to 5 students as they work on alphabetizing their set of words. Each group of words is color-coded to ensure that students don’t mix-up cards and to help them record their answers accurately. Students may work independently or in partners/groups. This is a fantastic center activity for honing in on Common Core skills while allowing students to work together or with a parent volunteer.
