    Description

I love teaching Lorraine Hansberry's A Raisin in the Sun. I schedule it during Black History Month, right after we finish our study of the Harlem Renaissance and Langston Hughes. My students love this play. They find it easy to understand and incredibly relevant, and it's a great way to learn about important events in the 1950s Civil Rights Movement (tie in segregated housing, the Fair Housing Act, and the Chicago Freedom Movement, for example).

This A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry Unit Bundle contains everything you need to teach the play easily, thoroughly, and effectively. It requires minimal teacher preparation and provides loads of value. Included are essential and optional resources to use before reading, during reading, and after reading.

HERE'S WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THIS BUNDLE:

    • Pre-Reading "Connect with Text" Questions : 40+ questions for students to think about and discuss prior to reading. These questions cover things like the American Dream, the meaning of family, family dynamics, family roles, and "What would you do if..." questions. (.pdf format)

    • 2 Slides Sets: Pre-Reading Google Slides will introduce Hansberry, themes in the play, and slides and outbound links covering Langston Hughes, the Civil Rights Movement, and Afrocentrism. Post-Reading Slides include post-reading themes focus, outbound links, and post-reading discussion questions. (Google Slides format)

    • Guided Reading Questions: The questions are blocked into five sets: Act I, Scene 1: 16 questions; Act I, Scene 2: 10 questions + paragraph; Act II, Scene 1: 11 questions; Act II, Scenes 2 & 3: 12 questions; Act III: 13 questions / (Google Doc & .pdf)

    • 3 Quizzes: Act I (23 multiple choice questions), Act II (16 multiple choice questions), & Act III (14 multiple choice questions) / (Google Doc, .pdf, & Google Form + Post-ready answer keys)

    • A Raisin in the Sun Unit Test: There are 60 total questions. 50 are multiple choice and 10 are quotation identification.

PLUS Bonus Items! As my thank you for buying the Unit Bundle, I'm including several bonus items to make your job easier!

    • Pacing Guide: This day-by-day breakdown includes up to 16 days' worth of plans. You can adapt it to your liking by removing things, giving more homework / classwork, or giving more days for writing / projects. (.pdf)

    • 5 Student Discussion Prep Handouts: Where Guided Reading Questions help students navigate the reading, my Discussion Prep Handouts help students dive deep into the reading so that they can bring their highest thinking to class discussion. The questions ask for them to analyze and reflect. (Often, I assign these in place of Guided Reading Questions.) (.pdf)

    • 5 Post-Reading Project Choices: Shine a light on your students' creativity with these creative and artistic project choices. (.pdf)

    • 14 Post-Reading Essay Topic Choices: Narrative, Persuasive, and Expository (Word Doc. & .pdf)

    • a Jeopardy-Style Test Review Game (PowerPoint)

    • a .pdf containing links to a Lorraine Hansberry Documentary on Amazon & the clip from PBS

As you can see, this Unit Bundle contains loads of value! I'm positive that your students will enjoy A Raisin in the Sun as much as mine!
