What educators are saying

I used a lot of the elements this bundle. Some things were a little too much for the level of my learners and several of the embedded links did not work.
This is an excellent resource for the classroom. It allows me to pick and choose as well as add and subtract to the slides and information provided.

Description

Perfect for in-class instruction OR distance learning. Your FRESHMAN high school curriculum and lessons in a single purchase! Recently updated for the new school year: Included in your purchase are nearly 100 presentations and over 2,500 slides available in BOTH Google and PowerPoint!

These interactive presentations are organized for you in a fashion where your ENTIRE year will be set; each presentation is designed to be totally interactive and provide a perfect balance between teacher instruction and student performance.

This curriculum can essentially be paperless, but you also have the option of printing for student use as well. Included in these presentations are questions, activities, bell ringers, video clips, projects, papers, essays, and more. In addition, the product now includes nearly 250 free Word documents. ** Important Note: When you first download the product, begin by opening the "BONUS FILE." Instructions for organizing the product are included within.**

It is all here!

Here are some comments on my 5 star rating, year-long products:

"A fantastic resource and springboard for teaching a class never taught before! Very helpful!" Elizabeth K, 8/18/19

"This is a wealth of resources collected into one bundle. Thank you!" Rachel S, 8/8/19

"...The resource appears to be very comprehensive and rigorous. Excited about that!" Angie N, 5/18/19

“This has truly been a lifesaver and made me a better teacher to my students!” Christel A H. 9/13/18

“Great resource!” Amanda L, 9/2/18

“Awesome” Jacqueline C, 8/6/18

The first presentation you will open will give detailed directions about how to best use the product. From there, the year is divided in to 5 different units; each lesson within every unit is numbered so it is extremely easy to stay organized, know what to do next, and keep moving forward in a way where skills are building.

As a seller, I have thousands of reviews on Teacherspayteachers; this bundle of the freshman year materials is the culmination of 10 years of adding new materials, tasks, and structure to make the freshman year experience a great one for both the students and the teacher. This is the curriculum I currently use, and I enjoy doing my job every day because these lessons are targeted to engage students through fun, interactive content that has an excellent balance of “teacher do” versus “student do.”

Here are the 5 units that are the backbone of the entire year:

• Unit 1 and First Week of School- After establishing the daily processes for the year (includes options such as assignments sheets, note taking, vocabulary, bell ringers), Unit 1 focuses on the mechanics of writing an essay (clustering, introductions, body paragraphs, concessions, conclusions) while focusing on the theme of purpose and audience (purpose and audience, word choice and diction). Literary elements (theme, imagery, plot and conflict) and shorts stories are used as a springboard for topics and writing prompts. Note: Additional presentations connected to literary terms are included in the extras folder; essay topics are also included in the extras folder. (A total bundle of 20 plus activities/presentations)

• Unit 2- The unit continues to build off of unit 1, but shifts more to a focus on the credibility of the communicator. Ethos, pathos, and logos become a central focus as the students are exposed to MLA formatting and citations. Writing principles from Unit 1 are further explored in a more complex, developed way (tone, transitions, concrete details, commentary). Small bits of research, citations, and formatting are infused in assignments associated with the short stories. If time permits, a project from the extras folder (poster project) may be a fun way to close this unit. (A total bundle of 16 activities/presentations)

• Unit 3- The unit continues the focus on research established in unit 2. Mythology is used as a tool for critical thinking, incorporating direct quotations, and finding evidence (allusion, allegory, origin, parable, incorporating quotations, using colons to incorporate quotations). The unit culminates in a research paper. Mythology quizzes and keys are easy to edit and may be used when appropriate. (A total bundle of 12 activities/presentations)

• Unit 4- The mythology unit is used as a springboard to focus on Homer’s The Odyssey. This unit may function on its own or as a supplement to unit 3. The unit offers extensive background (The Iliad, The Odyssey, Homer) on the epic, directions for annotation, quizzes, and a culminating project. The backbone of the unit, however, is the hero’s journey. This serves as a connection to the prior unit (mythology), as well as other characters from both book and film. There are essay topics, jeopardy games, and other extras provided to reinforce concepts from units 1, 2, and 3. (A total bundle of 20 activities/ presentations)

• Unit 5- The unit features extensive background and critical thinking connected to Shakespeare, The Globe Theatre, Elizabethan times; it also features activities and videos to help students work with the language of Shakespeare (Understanding Shakespeare, Shakespeare’s Sonnets). Once the students know Shakespeare and are more comfortable with his language, there are helpful activities provided for every act in the play. While working through the play, both a Romeo and Juliet Visual Tour and film guides to the 1996 version and 1968 version may be helpful. The last activity for the play is a culmination of the entire year, featuring writing, critical thinking, research, and creativity. (A total bundle of 20 activities/ presentations)

• Extras- This folder features two different presentations on literary terms; two different poster project variations related to literary terms; eight vocabulary lists with exercises, quizzes, and keys; discussion and literary circles; descriptive writing activities; semi-colon usage; sentence type activities; active vs passive voice; and a variety of essay prompts ranging from narrative in style to persuasive. (A total bundle of 7 activities/ presentations)

• Holiday Inspired- There are activities for Thanksgiving, winter (Christmas), Halloween (x2), and Valentine’s Day. (A total bundle of 5 activities/ presentations)
