Description

Angles and Triangles Quick Checks

Standards Based Assessments for the Geometry Domain for 8th Grade Common Core Math

This file includes three quick checks for each of the following goals for Common Core Standards 8.G.5 (Triangles), 8.G.5 (Parallel Lines), 8.G.6, 8.G.7, 8.G.8, and 8.G.9:

- I can find the missing interior or exterior angles of a triangle.

- I can identify angles created when a parallel line is cut by transversals.

- I can use the Pythagorean Theorem and its converse.

- I can solve mathematical and real-world problems using Pythagorean Theorem.

- I can use the Pythagorean Theorem to find the distance between two coordinates on a graph.

- I can state and apply the formulas for the volume of cones, cylinders, and spheres.

You can find a BUNDLE with Quick Checks for ALL 8th Grade Common Core Standards here:

8th Grade Common Core Quick Check Mini Assessments BUNDLE!

I use quick checks in my intervention classes as a way for the students to keep track of their progress and mastery. They could also be used in the regular classroom as a quick progress check to see if your students are understanding the material. You could use quick checks as a warm-up, exit ticket, or as a quick quiz! There are a total of 18 quick checks included in this product.

The file also includes a progress recording sheet for students to record their progress and date when mastery level is reached. My students keep a folder for their progress recording sheets and all quick checks. The students will take a quick check, then bring it up to me to be graded. I can quickly grade and record the score in my own records, and then the student takes the quick check back to their seat where they can record their score and file the quick check in their folder. Put the students in charge of staying organized, and they can look back to use the quick checks to help study for the test at the end of the unit!

Use informal arguments to establish facts about the angle sum and exterior angle of triangles, about the angles created when parallel lines are cut by a transversal, and the angle-angle criterion for similarity of triangles. For example, arrange three copies of the same triangle so that the sum of the three angles appears to form a line, and give an argument in terms of transversals why this is so.
Explain a proof of the Pythagorean Theorem and its converse.
Apply the Pythagorean Theorem to determine unknown side lengths in right triangles in real-world and mathematical problems in two and three dimensions.
Apply the Pythagorean Theorem to find the distance between two points in a coordinate system.
Know the formulas for the volumes of cones, cylinders, and spheres and use them to solve real-world and mathematical problems.
