Spiraled reviews in a middle school math classroom are a powerful tool that supports retention, reinforces learning, identifies learning gaps, and promotes a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts. By incorporating spiraled reviews into your daily routine, you can foster long-term learning and help students build a strong foundation in mathematics.

Spiraled reviews play a crucial role for several reasons:

  1. Retention & Reinforcement
  2. Addressing Learning Gaps
  3. Long Term Learning
  4. Preparation for Standardized Tests
  5. Building Confidence

Resource List

This resource is a part of my 7th grade skills based curriculum that I am building, this is a work in progress and I will be focusing on 7th grade TEKS this year with hopes to expand to 6th and 8th grade. While I am based in Texas and most of the resources will be aligned with the TEKS, everything I am creating is skill based meaning they are not specific to Texas and can be used by anyone! Take a look through the Resource List linked below to see all that is available, it is a live document and will be updated as I go.

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Know the formulas for the area and circumference of a circle and use them to solve problems; give an informal derivation of the relationship between the circumference and area of a circle.
Apply and extend previous understandings of addition and subtraction to add and subtract rational numbers; represent addition and subtraction on a horizontal or vertical number line diagram.
Describe situations in which opposite quantities combine to make 0. For example, a hydrogen atom has 0 charge because its two constituents are oppositely charged.
Understand 𝘱 + 𝘲 as the number located a distance |𝘲| from 𝘱, in the positive or negative direction depending on whether 𝘲 is positive or negative. Show that a number and its opposite have a sum of 0 (are additive inverses). Interpret sums of rational numbers by describing real-world contexts.
Understand subtraction of rational numbers as adding the additive inverse, 𝘱 – 𝘲 = 𝘱 + (β€“π˜²). Show that the distance between two rational numbers on the number line is the absolute value of their difference, and apply this principle in real-world contexts.
