- Explain how our decision to stereotype can affect their own health and the health of others.
LESSON PREPARATION TEACHING OUTLINE:
Lesson 5: Stereotyping and Labeling
ACTIVITY #1 - STEREOTYPING
- As students are walking into the classroom, have note cards ready with a variety of different stereotypes written on them. For example, JOCK, NERD, CHEERLEADER, ASIAN, AND SO ON…
- Ask the students to NOT show their classmates what their stereotype is - for the first 5-7 minutes of class, have the students DESCRIBE their stereotype to one another so their classmates can guess what it is.
- How did your students feel doing this activity?
- Was anyone offended or angry?
- Was anyone, “I would be happy to be that stereotype!”
