Description

Here's a collection for 6th grade teachers and their 6th grade language arts students. Bookmarks will ease students' understanding of the "how's of thinking and responding" as you teach to the standards. One way to use these bookmarks is to laminate them and distribute to individuals or to groups during literature circle discussions or independent work. Because the bookmark [think as you read..] is generic it can be used with any type of fiction. Another way to utilize the bookmarks is to runoff copies and allow students to write or circle directly on the bookmarks. This will prepare students with a brief response when discussions ensue.

Clearly, there is a lot for students and teachers to think about when using this resource. Keeping these bookmarks on your desk is a sure way to align teacher and student "talk" to the standards.

These bookmarks are also intended to support general teaching because: the standards are re-written in a simple way, "how to think" lends itself to any group, or one on one discussion, can be used for brief check ups, and much more. Suggestions for what to write after the reading has ended also adds to the value of these bookmarks. So whether all thinking questions are used or only a few, students will dig deeper as they read.

You will find students aren't the only ones who benefit from these bookmarks, so too will teachers!

Enjoy!
