Description

Here's a student and teacher friendly collection of informational standards to support your instruction and their responses. Run off copies as you teach the standards. One idea is to handout one standard at a time. Provide your students with an informational text [nonfiction article] and as they read have them refer to the bookmark. The bookmark is divided into 3 section: What the standard means, What students should think as they read, and how to respond [write] to the standard. The bookmarks will direct their critical reading skills. Use the same nonfiction article too as you teach to the other standards.

Students can keep bookmarks as an easy reference to support independent reading.

Also, students may find it easy to jot a few notes or page numbers on the back of the bookmarks. Last, another idea is to laminate the bookmarks. If you have students working in groups, rotate the standards amongst the various groups. Later, share as a class and see what new student learnings have occurred.
