What educators are saying

I love these so much! I wish I had this so many years ago. Students stay engaged and follow along with the reading. So easy to use and just love how it flows together.
This helps guide my students through lessons so easily. We use them for each and every lesson. We had to start out as whole group, but now my classes can complete them independently.

Fill in the Blank Notes in just one PDF - 5th Grade SAVVAS Sci

    Description

This resource is a MUST HAVE SUPPLEMENT for Elevate Science's 5th grade SAVVAS curriculum! Included is fill in the blank notes for EACH section of EACH topic, where these fill in the blank notes are intentionally designed to highlight key information in each section and are intentionally designed to cover majority of the information that gets covered in those tricky online, application level quizzes. Answer keys are also included :)

Elevate Science is a very wonderful, yet rigorous science curriculum - and implementing these fill in the blank notes have been an absolute game changer for me and other educators that utilize these notes sets. These notes allow students to have key information from each section in an organized way, which allows them to build study skills (as I like to have student study their notes). Be sure to check out the previews!

These fill in the blank notes were designed to not only highlight key information, but were also intentionally designed to highlight the information that gets assessed during the quizzes for each section. Spend more time teaching key concepts/doing fun activities and less time having students write notes or having the information go in one ear and out the other with these fill in the blank notes sets. Oh, and have I mentioned that these notes will allow students to have majority of the key information discussed from each section in an organized way that they can easily look back at?!

My favorite thing about these notes is the size of the notesheet - each section has two copies of the notes. That way, if I do want students to add additional notes/drawings in their notebook there is still space on that page (and this also saves paper)! These notes fit perfectly into composition notebooks :)

What I love most is that these notes guide students to build a variety of skills that they might not have ever used before fourth grade such as finding key words in sentences and using context clues to determine a blank. I tried to make it more challenging as the year progresses, but we typically do a lot of partner discussions after reading a section to find the missing blanks. With that being said, I personally recommend reading each section together as a class so you can pause, reflect, and expand student thinking on specific content topics while also using the notes to capitalize on key information. This is the way that the most learning takes place!

    NGSS5-ESS2-2
Describe and graph the amounts of salt water and fresh water in various reservoirs to provide evidence about the distribution of water on Earth. Assessment is limited to oceans, lakes, rivers, glaciers, ground water, and polar ice caps, and does not include the atmosphere.
    NGSS5-PS1-3
Make observations and measurements to identify materials based on their properties. Examples of materials to be identified could include baking soda and other powders, metals, minerals, and liquids. Examples of properties could include color, hardness, reflectivity, electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, response to magnetic forces, and solubility; density is not intended as an identifiable property. Assessment does not include density or distinguishing mass and weight.
    NGSS5-ESS1-2
Represent data in graphical displays to reveal patterns of daily changes in length and direction of shadows, day and night, and the seasonal appearance of some stars in the night sky. Examples of patterns could include the position and motion of Earth with respect to the sun and selected stars that are visible only in particular months. Assessment does not include causes of seasons.
    NGSS5-ESS1-1
Support an argument that differences in the apparent brightness of the sun compared to other stars is due to their relative distances from Earth. Assessment is limited to relative distances, not sizes, of stars. Assessment does not include other factors that affect apparent brightness (such as stellar masses, age, stage).
    NGSS5-LS2-1
Develop a model to describe the movement of matter among plants, animals, decomposers, and the environment. Emphasis is on the idea that matter that is not food (air, water, decomposed materials in soil) is changed by plants into matter that is food. Examples of systems could include organisms, ecosystems, and the Earth. Assessment does not include molecular explanations.
