Description

This is a fully digital summer escape room. Included is a PDF with a link to play.

Need an ultra-engaging end of the year activity?

This summer reading comprehension escape room is coming in hot! Whether we're talking May, June, July, August, after state testing, or even back to school — Puzzle Punks: Camp Calamari doesn't feel like learning; it feels like a video game! In this no prep digital reading game, your class will work through five standards-based, 5th grade reading comprehension activities. Each encourages dangerous levels of classroom engagement, teamwork, and problem solving.

Includes 5 reading comprehension challenges:

1. Main idea and supporting details

2. Poetry: author, lines, stanzas, and rhyme scheme

3. Figurative language: similes, metaphors, onomatopoeia, and personification

4. Context clues

5. Elements of a story: theme, conflict, character traits, and point of view

Use this digital activity for:

• An end of year, summer, or back to school reading escape room

• A fun after testing activity for individuals and small groups
• A no-prep, fully digital fifth grade literacy center or ELA breakout room

• A reading intervention game to catch kids up during summer break
• An informal assessment of reading skills during the first week of school

How Puzzle Punks works:

This is a digital-only escape room. After purchasing, you'll download a PDF with a link to play the game.

You'll divide your classroom into teams of up to 6 students each (you can also play as a whole class or as an individual), then assign each team a device — a Chromebook, iPad, laptop, PC, Mac, you name it. Puzzle Punks works on anything with an internet connection! Then, in typical escape room fashion, each team will complete a number of reading challenges. For each, they will:

1. Read engaging reading comprehension passages: stories, poems, and more.

2. Answer questions via multiple choice, crossword puzzles, and cryptograms.

3. Decode the secret word by deciphering clues hidden within the answers

Upon completing every challenge, the game is complete! The entire experience takes about 45-60 minutes.

Why Puzzle Punks rocks:

• No prep: start playing in less than a minute.

• No supplies: just a single digital device for each team.

• Differentiation: tailor the game to each individual group.

• Dope artwork: you've never seen an escape room like this.

• Standards-based: but actually fun!

The lore of Camp Calamari:

Ahh... Camp Calamari. A place of friendship, smiles, and a great big secret. Legend has it that an ancient treasure is buried beneath the beach — but the secret is out, and the pirates are coming! Can you prepare the camp's defenses in time?
