Description

Regardless of your students' writing abilities, you can use these 5-Paragraph Essay Scaffolded Outlines and Rubric! This PRINTABLE and DIGITAL resource will allow you to quickly and easily choose an outline and outlining process right for your students' abilities--and grade them too!

The included lesson plan includes a breakdown for how scaffolded each outline is, printable and digital directions for using each, and some teaching tips.

The Numbered Outline is the most scaffolded of the included outline. This outline includes every part of the essay and is numbered in the order students should complete each part. (Students focus on big ideas like the thesis and body paragraph claims and work their way to miscellaneous parts of the introduction and conclusion.)

While students fill out the numbered outline, you will use the included directions slideshow to guide them through each numbered step. The slideshow includes directions, examples for both a literary analysis and research paper, and a checklist for each step.

There are also optional printable directions to go with the numbered outline that gives students an overview of how the numbered outline will work.

The Scaffolded Outline is the mid-level of scaffolding. This outline is identical to the numbered outline without the numbers. Students complete this on their own without teacher guidance for each step.

The least scaffolded outline is the Basic Outline--perfect for confident writers. With this outline, students gather the most important ideas before writing their rough draft.

Each outline includes a printable version and an editable digital version.

Also included is a rubric that will work for ANY 5-paragraph essay. Included are a printable version, an editable version, and a Google Sheets version for easy importing into Google Classroom.

Use these scaffolded outlines to differentiate for each of your students or for gradual release of responsibility throughout the year!
