What educators are saying

I love the bookmarks. Great way to reinforce the retelling skill with visuals and easy access. My students use them to keep track of their place and recall how to retell a story.
Cute bookmark-sized cards to hand out to my students. Iteally helps having a visual when retelling text. It helps with comprehension as well.

Description

Being able to retell a story with key details supports the work of the Common Core! This product is sure to do the job by providing visual scaffolds!

Here's What's Included:

  • 6 posters; 2 light-skinned, 2 dark-skinned, 2 black-lined-all left, and right hands
  • Bookmarks that match posters with visuals
  • 2 sizes of bookmarks
  • 1 five finger retell worksheet-editable template to use as a word bank or for kids to retell the story in pictures

**********************************************************************************************************

Both the posters and the bookmarks have visual clues to help young readers remember the parts of the story. The visuals tell their own story. Two characters with the playground as the setting and one of the characters are playing and the other character is bothering him or bullying him but then they become friends. Not a Caldecott but you get the picture!

The posters and the bookmarks feature hands in black and white, light-skinned and a darker-skinned tone hand to hopeful match the kids in your class or at least to come close. You will have the option.

I would laminate these and have a copy in your kids’ book bag, the bag where they keep the books you teach them and also one in their reading folder. This way they will have a handy reference each time you meet in a small group

The posters would be great on your reading table (use a stand-up acrylic frame to hold them) or if you are lucky enough to have a poster maker, these would be ideal blown up!

Any reader who needs help with retelling will benefit!! Visuals are the key!

Whichever way you choose to display and use will help all your readers learn the important skill of retelling!

**Please note the dark-skinned hand only comes with fingers counting the way shown in the preview.

Also, included is an editable five finger retelling graphic organizer word bank that could be used if you are having your kids do a written retelling.

Thanks for stopping by!
