Description

Common Core reading workshop! Every 4th Grade Common Core Informational and Literature Standard is addressed with a strategy card, focus question, exit slip(s), and an "I Can" Statement. This pack includes everything you need to visually show your students the skills they are developing as readers. I include tips and photos from my classroom to help you implement this in your own room.

The way I use this in my own classroom:
- Spend one week (give or take) on each strategy. Hang the strategy card (included in this pack for every Common Core standard) in a prominent place. During my Interactive Read Aloud, I focus on the strategy and give my students time to "turn and talk" to discuss the strategy as it applies to the book I am reading. I have a focus question for each strategy.
- After my Interactive Read Aloud, they practice the strategy in their own independent reading. They have a specified amount of time (about 3 days) to produce an exit slip (included in this pack) that shows me how they use the strategy. This is an excellent way to assess each students understanding of the Common Core reading standards.
- When I feel we have mastery of the strategy, I hang an "I Can" statement (included in this pack). Then I introduce a new strategy as I spiral through the "I Can statements" for the rest of the year.

This pack specifically matches the 4th Grade Common Core standards.

I have found that this pack keeps me on target with the standards just as much as it does for my students. All of the focus questions and "I Can" statements are original and match the standards in kid friendly language. The bright colors are perfect in any classroom and definitely have appeal!

Enjoy!
