Description

Aligned to the Common Core State Standards for Math. Fourth Grade Math Standards. Math teacher resources for assessment and instruction. Organize your instruction with this easy to use standards organizer!

This is a GREAT resource for organizing your math instruction and aligning it to the standards. This resources is a place where all of the standards are listed (and you don't have to go searching for each standard and description)! I also integrated the progression documents into this resource by including the progression of standards from the grade levels before and after. It also includes sample problems to help with the assessment and instruction of each standard.

This resource provides a way to organize your instruction and assessment for every standard across the grade level. It includes both a printable option in PDF format (if you like to put things in binders and hand-write them like me), as well as a digital option in Powerpoint format if you prefer to keep track of your instruction digitally so you can save it from year to year, or save it for your teacher evaluation/observation, for conferences or for your records. The file will download as a ZIP file, with both the PDF and Powerpoint included.

Each standard includes the following:

  • The standard number and description
  • The progression of standards, which outlines the standard in the grade level below and the grade level above that is most closely related to this grade level’s standard. This is hugely important for remediation/enrichment and differentiation.
  • A sample problem or two for each standard which is very helpful for assessment and creating classroom activities to practice each standard.
  • Space to record when you taught and retaught the standard
  • Space to record when you assessed the standard
  • Space to record any notes related to that standard—these could be additional understandings, or questions about the standard, or you could use it to keep track of students who have or have not yet mastered the standard.

Standards are also color-coded according to the major work of the grade (green), supporting work of the grade (blue), and additional work of the grade (yellow). This helps teachers understand which standards need to be focused on most heavily in instruction, so that they can assess and instruct accordingly. Please note that all standards are important, and no standards should be skipped because they are additional or supporting standards.

I recommend printing this document or keeping it in an easy-to-use place on your desktop to integrate into your daily routine! It helps you keep better understand each standard as well as align your instruction to the standards and keep track of your class progress!

Know relative sizes of measurement units within one system of units including km, m, cm; kg, g; lb, oz.; l, ml; hr, min, sec. Within a single system of measurement, express measurements in a larger unit in terms of a smaller unit. Record measurement equivalents in a two-column table. For example, know that 1 ft is 12 times as long as 1 in. Express the length of a 4 ft snake as 48 in. Generate a conversion table for feet and inches listing the number pairs (1, 12), (2, 24), (3, 36),...
Use the four operations to solve word problems involving distances, intervals of time, liquid volumes, masses of objects, and money, including problems involving simple fractions or decimals, and problems that require expressing measurements given in a larger unit in terms of a smaller unit. Represent measurement quantities using diagrams such as number line diagrams that feature a measurement scale.
Apply the area and perimeter formulas for rectangles in real world and mathematical problems. For example, find the width of a rectangular room given the area of the flooring and the length, by viewing the area formula as a multiplication equation with an unknown factor.
Make a line plot to display a data set of measurements in fractions of a unit (1/2, 1/4, 1/8). Solve problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions by using information presented in line plots. For example, from a line plot find and interpret the difference in length between the longest and shortest specimens in an insect collection.
Recognize angles as geometric shapes that are formed wherever two rays share a common endpoint, and understand concepts of angle measurement:
