Description

This is a 3 page editing and revising assessment that aligns with 4th grade language common core standards. The assessment includes both multiple choice questions and paragraph rewriting. You can use this assessment as a pre- and post-assessment before and after teaching editing skills or as a screener to identify students who need special intervention and support with conventions in writing. Grammar and writing skills targeted include verb agreements, complete sentences, run-on sentences and fragments, ordering adjectives, prepositional phrases, homophones, capitalization, punctuation, quotations, and spelling.

Easy to Assess
This assessment is also particularly helpful because it is not reading or writing intensive. Instead, it JUST focuses on editing and revising skills. Many other screeners require students to read long passages and go back into the passage to find correct answers. This often causes struggling learners to fatigue and not show what they know. That is why with this quick and easy assessment, you will have accurate information on how your students are performing.

Printable & Easy to Score
This document includes and answer key and student scoring sheets so that you can keep data on your students' editing/revising skills and progress. There are two scoring sheets: One for individual student scoring reports and one for a whole-class report. The whole-class scoring sheet allows the teacher to identify how the class is doing as a whole on skills targeted.

This assessment can also be used with older students receiving special education services or intervention in writing.
