SIMPLE ONE-TIME MATH WARM-UP PREP 

  • Print the pages
  • Slide the pages into plastic sheet protectors 
  • Clip the sheet protectors into a 3-ring binder or folder
  • Provide each student with their Number of the Day Binder and a whiteboard marker (if you prefer to use these as a center, just make a few binders instead of a class set). 

THE NUMBER OF THE DAY MATH WARM-UP ROUTINE

  1. Teacher selects a new number between 1-100 each day
  2. Students complete multiple pages in their binder (3-4 pages is recommended for a 10-15 minute warm-up)
  3. After students complete their assigned pages, they tap their heads silently to signal they are done
  4. Teacher stops by to check the binder pages
  5. Teacher signals students to tuck their binder away after work has been checked
  6. Teacher notes mentally, or in writing which students need follow-up instruction related to their place value practice
  7. Teacher follows up on misconceptions and mistakes as needed during the math block

The numbers from 11 to 19 are composed of a ten and one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, or nine ones.
The numbers 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 refer to one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, or nine tens (and 0 ones).
Understand that the three digits of a three-digit number represent amounts of hundreds, tens, and ones; e.g., 706 equals 7 hundreds, 0 tens, and 6 ones. Understand the following as special cases:
