What educators are saying

I loved this resource! I enjoyed seeing my students more engaged with these lessons for this skill. Overall, I enjoyed this product, especially that it included answers keys and was little prep.
We used this during a time of studying the solar system so it was a great way to tie it all together!

Description

Are you looking for a fun way to have students practice integrating information from two texts? This product is for the April 8, 2024 Great American Total Solar Eclipse! This resource can also be accommodated for anytime!

Includes: LESSON PLAN, RIGOROUS LITERACY activities, and a POWERPOINT!

This lesson is for that literacy teacher wanting to INTEGRATE SCIENCE or that science teacher wanting to INTEGRATE LITERACY in a student-directed fashion!!!

My lesson plan provides differentiation ideas too! I geared it towards the 4TH GRADE student, but can be accommodated for advanced 3rd graders with assistance or for older students capable of doing activities independently.

Reading: CCSS RI.4.6 Integrate information from two texts on the same topic in order to write or speak about the subject knowledgeably.

Science: SPI.0407.6.2 Infer that the moons phases are caused by the revolution of the moon and earth around the sun.

Lesson Goals:

TSW Integrate information from two texts about solar eclipses in order to write and speak about these events knowledgeably.

TSW Explain how solar eclipses occur and how they differ from lunar eclipses.

Includes:

1. Lesson Plan (Editable) includes links to two articles and a video (3 PAGES long)

*********************Articles are related to the April 2024 solar eclipse. Article 1 takes about 5 minutes and article 2 takes about 10 minutes. i would make sure you have plenty of class time to do this. Since this is an integrated lesson, you could easily combine science and language arts periods to do this*************

2. PowerPoint (Editable version included too) 20 SLIDES

3. Text Time Questions (Editable) 5 PAGES

4. KWL Chart 1 PAGE

5. Choice Board Activity (Editable) 1 PAGE

6. Choice Board Rubric (Editable) 1 PAGE

-----------

7. *** INCLUDES the Compare and Contrast SOLAR VS. LUNAR supplemental sheets (Some sheets may be used along with your lesson, but some could be used later during stations/centers/etc. for extra eclipse learning)

I recommend having students start their Choice Board Activity on the following day, and giving them a few more to complete it during their independent learning time.

*Note the PowerPoint is for the delivery and pacing of lesson...not for lecturing or teaching the material because the students LEARN through reading and during the activities. However, there is a supplemental video provided in the PPT for those visual learners!

The PPT will be your precious tool to keep both you and students on track during break out sessions and discussions.

This would make a great lesson for EVALUATIONS!
