TWO POSTERS in ONE PACKAGE: both for printing up to 12x18"

Edmund Burke, one of Britain’s greatest intellectuals in the 18th century, is known for his incisive wisdom and analysis of political movements and the rise (and fall) of nations. This pack includes PDFs for two printable quotations set against colorful backgrounds.

Relevant to today's difficult world, teachers may find these posters to be an excellent jumping-off point for discussions of world conflicts (such as Palestine vs Israel or Ukraine vs Russia) or for more general units on civics, democracy, and character education.

Poster #1: The hottest fires in hell are reserved for those who remain neutral in times of moral crisis.

Poster #2: When bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall one by one, an unpitied sacrifice in a contemptible struggle.

These two posters enshrine two of his thoughtful remarks about the power of citizens to enact change, to resist unjust systems, and to work together for powerful effects. We have a responsibility to care for our society as a whole, and for that work to succeed, we all must play a role.

I envision these posters as part of a history or social studies classroom, but I think Burke’s words are meaningful in a variety of subjects and uses. Quotations that spark reflection can be used in class discussions, to generate ideas in writing, or just to give students something chewy to work on when they aren’t concentrating on something else.

PRODUCT DETAILS:

Posters are each sized for 12x18” printing with an ¼” bleed on all 4 sides (meaning the actual size of the PDF is 12.5x18.5” so you can print at 100% on slightly larger paper and trim with no white border). I will including directions for printing in the file package.

I make posters for teachers to display in a reading corner, on a bulletin board, or as part of the classroom décor. I select quotes that are meaningful to me and educational in a variety of avenues and grade levels.
