1st Grade Synonym Notebook Activity

This lesson focuses on developing lexical knowledge through various synonym activities. There are over 20 synonym pairs and over 40 pages of synonym prompts, questions and activities to practice. Students will define a handful of vocabulary words (e.g., silent, glad, wealthy) and identify its synonym. Encourage children to use each word in a sentence. Synonym tasks strengthen vocabulary and allow students to make connections between ideas, group their thoughts and facilitate efficient storage and retrieval of information. Additionally, vocabulary instruction improves listening and reading comprehension.
