Description

"1917" is an incredible movie that accurately depicts the human reality of trench warfare through exceptional videography. The movie looks as if it has been filmed in one sequence providing the viewer with a birds-eye view of life in the trenches and beyond. A must see!

TEACHERS LIKE YOU SAID…

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I used this as a supplemental material for a summer tutoring session I was facilitating. Helpful and very visually appealing! Great work!

During the movie, students complete a simple analysis sheet. After the movie, a more in-depth analysis takes in small groups. A clear and creatively designed Powerpoint, complete with "teacher tips," guides students through a series of tasks.

Here are the activities students will complete:

  • Making connections between what was studied in class and what was observed in the movie.
  • Identifying the central themes of the movie.
  • Comparing and contrasting the two main characters and what they represent.
  • Watching a short clip on how the movie was filmed using revolutionary forms of videography.
  • Discussing "Deeper Thinking Questions."

Other details:

  • A simple, but clear rubric is provided along with a seating plan chart.
  • The resources can be used in the form of a traditional group/class discussion, but I recommend using the "Thinking Classroom" model developed by Peter Lliljedahl. Search him on YouTube! The model does result in higher student engagement and the development of critical thinking.
